Kelly led a four-person senior design team in developing a wearable hip-assist exoskeleton for post-stroke rehabilitation. The project integrated rotary actuators, an IMU, force sensors, Arduino-based controls, and 3D-printed components while meeting defined performance, weight, battery-life, adjustability, and budget requirements. All under a $1,400 budget!
The project was recognized as one of the top biomedical engineering senior design projects at Florida International University’s Senior Design Expo.
Mentorship may include:
• Defining the clinical or engineering problem
• Identifying user needs and project requirements
• Literature reviews and background research
• Concept generation and design selection
• Project planning, timelines, and team organization
• Medical-device design and prototyping
• Arduino, sensors, actuators, and basic control systems
• CAD, circuit, and technical design review
• Software requirements, architecture, and verification planning
• Experimental design and testing strategies
• Data analysis using MATLAB, Python, R, or Excel
• Risk analysis and regulatory considerations
• Engineering notebooks and design documentation
• Technical reports, posters, and presentations
• Senior Design Expo and final-presentation preparation
Her background also includes coursework and experience in biomedical-device design, medical instrumentation, mechatronics, circuits, control systems, biomaterials, software architecture, software requirements, and software verification.
Each session is customized to the team’s project stage, course requirements, deadlines, and technical challenges. Guidance focuses on helping students make sound engineering decisions, communicate their work clearly, and develop a project they can confidently defend.
Perfect for:
✔ Early-stage project planning
✔ Teams struggling to define scope
✔ Design reviews and troubleshooting
✔ Prototype and testing support
